Place your child’s foot on the paper. Ask them to stand tall with their feet slightly apart.
Make sure that their heel is in line with the back of the gauge.
Make a mark where the child’s longest toe reaches (note: this is not always the big toe). This is their shoe length.
Step 3
Cut the width measuring tape from the paper. Check the measurements against a ruler.
Place it under the child's foot and measure at the widest part of the foot, usually diagonal from the big toe joint to the small toe joint.
Take note of the measurement. This is their width.
Step 4
When the new shoes have arrived, it is time to try them on. Once the shoes are fastened securely, ask the child to stand with their weight evenly distributed between both feet.
Check that there is a thumb's width between the child's toes and the end of the shoe. If you cannot feel their toes, ask them to wiggle their feet.
The shoe should fit snugly in the heel. Give it a little tug as if trying to pull it off. If it stays in place, this is the correct fit.
Check that the width is not too tight across the joint.
